The Story:

The USSA Masters Summer Fun Nationals is a sanctioned US Ski and Snowboard Association event for Masters ski racers aged from 21-85 years old.  They race on World Cup type courses to USSA Masters specifications in five year age classes for both men and women.  The field consists of racers who are USSA members from all across the US, Canada, and a few from other countries. 

The event began in 1989 as the Summer Fun Race, when three friends (Meri Stratton, Paul Garcia, and Bob Skoch) who were USSA members and lived on Mt. Hood, decided to invite their winter ski racing friends to come enjoy the beauty of summer ski racing on Mt. Hood.   Summer ski racing combines beautiful, warm, sunny weather with a sport typically thought of as a "winter sport".  It quickly became very popular attracting racers from all across the US and soon took on the status of "Summer Fun Nationals".

The event has grown to its current size averaging 170 racers.  These racers also bring family and friends with them to Mt. Hood for vacation.  Most arrive the week prior to the event so they can train for the event at a �race camp�.  The event gives them the opportunity to be competitive, socialize with old friends and re-educate their muscles half way between last season and next.

Over 50 people volunteer, both racers and non racers, to make the Summer Fun Nationals successful year after year.  This event is put on by people who love ski racing and want to promote the sport. 

In addition to the First, Second and Third place awards for each 5 year age class, special awards have become a tradition of the event.  The Bob Skoch Memorial Award is given to the racers in each class with the fastest combined Slalom and Giant Slalom race times.  The PUTZI Prize is awarded for the fastest Man and Woman in Slalom.  To add humor, the Retro Clothing Award is for the best ancient Slalom costume. 

The opportunities:

Sponsorship opportunities are now available for you to present your products to adult ski racers with plenty of disposable income who are sports oriented, travel extensively, like adrenaline rushes, purchase quality products, and are well educated.

Sponsorship opportunities vary.  Title Sponsorship is available to the highest bidder.  Gate panels, bibs and flagging sponsors are always welcome.  There are parties that may be hosted:  Friday Welcome, Saturday BBQ/Awards, and the Sunday Awards.  Some more opportunities include quality prizes to be given away at the parties in bib drawings, "toss outs", donations for the silent auction, and gifts for each racer.  Welcome bags are given to each racer with product samples where you may present your products to the racers.  The event T-shirt with event logos and sponsor logos offers the front and back prime locations for a dollar amount or may be tied to title sponsorship.   Your other ideas are also welcomed.  Your banners and products may be displayed on the race hill as well as at all the parties.
